Review all non-foods/disposable items used in the business
- Are the items used today, appropriate for their use?
- Take out containers, “doggie bag” items and items delivered by Uber Eats, et al – are you using the same packaging for each instance? Could you move to alternate lower-priced items for one or more use?
- Are you using items today that you started using due to COVID-19 safety protocols but are no longer required or necessary?
- Are you using plastic souffle cups when you could use “permanent ware” for condiments? A one-time investment for an on-going savings vs using plastic
- Can you change out high-cost disposables made from polystyrene for products made from less expensive materials (paper)?
- Promote sustainability where changes in material results in using more environmentally friendly products
- Download the Pactiv app “VPA” or Virtual Product Assistant to find options that meet specific use cases such as maintaining temperature, resisting soak-through etc. This may lead users to lower cost options that fulfill the need.
- Review the number of sizes/substrates being used. Is there an opportunity to reduce the number of individual items and reduce inventory complexity?
- Are you using the same liner for the Slim Jim trash container as for the 32-gallon container? You are likely wasting money and failing to maximize usage. Perform a quick audit of your container sizes and dimensions to purchase optimal liners for each unit. Selecting the appropriate trash can liner for the job will create cost-savings over time.
